The existing cottage had been in the family for generations but the cost of continued repairs and upkeep, along with a floor plan that no longer fit the current owner’s needs led to the decision to start fresh. Maintaining a strong connection to the past was of paramount importance to our client. We salvaged, and had re-furbished, the old kitchen basin sink, a bath sink, the soaking tub, all of the door hardware and many lighting fixtures. Most important by far, however, was to salvage the fieldstone fireplace that her grandfather had built generations prior. In order to do this our mason meticulously removed each stone one at a time and labeled it to correspond with photos we used to document the process.

To say they nailed it is an extreme understatement! The exterior finish details mimic the style that was popular when the original cottage was built as a nod to the past and old-time craftsmanship. The interior finishes scream beach cottage at every turn and, again, mimic styles of the past. Coffered ceilings, beadboard accents, paneled doors, site built-in cabinetry, warm maple flooring all make this home feel relaxed and inviting.
