The proud new owner of this gentleman’s estate on the Hammonassett River contacted us after we were referred by his real estate agent. What began as a relatively straightforward kitchen remodel and cosmetic job evolved into something else all together.
Once it was determined that severe insect damage had compromised the structure, structural framing was replaced and new fiber cement siding and composite exterior trim were installed, along with new energy efficient windows and doors. This would help prevent future problems and all but eliminate maintenance needs.
Moving inside, the floor plan was altered to allow for an expansive master bedroom with an ensuite bath and walk in closet, as well as a laundry center located within easy reach. The old galley kitchen with its cramped quarters was opened up to the great room and truly custom cabinets provided much needed storage in every possible inch. Site built custom cabinetry was designed specifically to house the owner’s extensive antique and book collections for display. The entire home was re-wired and a standby generator waits to spring into action when needed. The HVAC systems were also completely replaced, as was all of the plumbing.
So in the end, other than the foundation, some framing and the roof, the owner has a new house, though at first glance most people would think it was the same early 1900s space. This means we did our job!
